SALADO CREEK GREENWAY
San Antonio, Texas
City of San Antonio, 1988-present
Dixie first advanced the notion of a linear, recreational corridor
utilizing the Salado Creek and its floodplain as the primary prototype
in 1978 as a Planner with the City of San Antonio. Through his production
of the "Urban Wilderness Experience," his preparation
of grants, studies, plans, trail designs, participation in PBS features,
task forces, boards and commission, Dixie has promoted the sensitive
conservation of open spaces for over three decades. By focusing
much personal, academic and professional energy on the Salado Creek,
he continues to be an advocate for change. Numerous individuals,
firms and city entities continue to consult with Dixie about options
for various sites along the Salado.

Phase I Recreational Development
A prototype "keystone" park was developed for the recreational
development of the Salado Creek floodplain, adjacent brownfields,
connections with existing neighborhoods and protection of extant
resources.
