CIBOLO NATURE CENTER
Boerne, Texas
Friends of Cibolo Wilderness Society, 1998-present
100-acres of protected land in the Texas Hill Country including
four distinct ecosystems with trails, streams and quiet groves.
- Comprehensive analysis of the political, physical, and environmental
integrity and expansion potential of the Center.
- Designed buffers, appropriate degrees of development, linkages,
and the strategic planning of adjacent properties and off-site
dynamics.
- Interfaced with cultural resource interpretation, proposed greenways,
regional trails, along with the primary mission of demonstrating
stewardship and natural heritage.
- Detailed environmental analysis from a variety of scientists
and experts was interfaced along with satellite imagery, aerial
photography, and on the ground surveys.
- Developed an accurate depiction of the various natural components
of the site.
- Landscape management plans included a proposed hierarchy of
treatments which dealt with buffers, balancing recreation and
education, and expanding the Center's role.
- Collaborated in the creation of the Cibolo Conservancy to assist
environmental integrity at a regional level, laying the groundwork
for the expansion of the Center to include a much-needed education
and research building on-site, as well as satellite facilities
and greenways.
- Prepared a comprehensive landscape architecture package that
unified the historic structure with the new Lende Learning Center
Complex.
- Closely coordinated on detailed design solutions and on-site
work with team professionals and volunteers.
- Stressed the interpretive potential of both the implementation
and the process of universal design principles, stormwater, best
management practices and wetland management.
